IP COMMERCIALISATION: A BOOST FOR HONG KONG RE-INDUSTRIALISATION STRATEGY

As a result of the worldwide trend towards the digital revolution and technical rivalry, there will be an increase in demand for the commercialization of intellectual property (IP). Global trade in intellectual property climbed from US$278 billion in 2012 to US$435 billion in 2021, according to the World Bank, illustrating the trend of IP commercialization and its profit.

To promote IP Commercialization in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Young Industrialists Council (HKYIC) organized a dissertation seminar on “IP Commercialization – A boost for Hong Kong re-industrialization” on 4 July 2023. HKYIC partnered with Professor Heiwai Tang, Director of Asia Global Institute of the University of Hong Kong, to produce a comprehensive research report delving into the topic. The report analyzes the trading and financing aspects of intellectual property, with a particular focus on patents in China, the United States, and Singapore. Additionally, it offers specific policy recommendations for Hong Kong.
